Research shows that athletes returning to cutting and pivoting sports such as soccer, hockey, basketball, football, rugby, and volleyball have a higher risk of sustaining another ACL injury if they return before meeting important physical benchmarks. Up to 30% of athletes will experience a second ACL injury, with younger athletes at the greatest risk.
